Must. Have. Coffee.
Is this your first thought when you wake up each morning?
I like to gussy my cup of coffee up with sugar, flavored creamer, sometimes whipped cream, caramel syrup, and/or cinnamon. It has gotten to the point where my husband says, “That’s not even coffee.”
Today is different. Today, I am drinking naked coffee. This coffee has no need for embellishments, because my cup of coffee tells a story. Does yours?
The coffee I am drinking today is from Mt. Elgon in Uganda. If you have spent any time on my blog, you know a piece of my heart lives in Uganda. With every sip, I appreciate the fact that hard working Ugandan men and women farmers grew and harvested these coffee beans to support their families.
THE WIDOW’S OFFERING
“Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything – all she had to live on.” Mark 12: 43-44.
This story has always had a big impact on my heart. I have tried to imagine the scene from the widow’s point of view, as well as the point of view of Jesus and spectators.
I want you to take a moment and picture yourself attending a church service in a very rural Ugandan village completely overwhelmed by poverty. When the offering basket is passed around hand to hand, a widow, stricken with poverty, places three avocados in the basket. She generously gives all she has to give without hesitation.
What kind of impact would this experience have on your life?
Ask Joe Koenig. (Insert really bad “cup of Joe” pun here.)
Joe witnessed the widow giving all she had to her church, and with that offering…his life was changed. Joe set out to make a difference. He devised an idea to do his part in the mission to eradicate poverty.
Three Avocados was born in February of 2010. Three Avocados is a non-profit organization that sells coffee (extremely good coffee at that – much better than my highly adorned “not-coffee” coffee). 100% of their net proceeds go towards providing clean water to Uganda through various organizations.
Since the start-up of Three Avocados, they have expanded into Nicaragua. Fair prices are paid to Ugandan and Nicaraguan small farmers which aide in helping the families of the farmers, creating jobs, improving situations, and giving hope.
Coffee-loving consumers then purchase quality coffee to savor. Their purchase goes to provide clean, drinking water for the impoverished all over the world. It is a win-win-win! Everyone benefits!
If you are a coffee lover, please give Three Avocados a try! You are going to purchase coffee anyway so why not make a difference?
Maybe you are not a coffee lover, but I bet someone close to you is. Three Avocados offers an assortment of gifts and subscriptions! If you are going to buy a gift for someone, why not make a difference?
Are you a retailer? You can sell Three Avocados coffee! Check out their wholesale program and make a difference!
